PGCA CAPOEIRA

PGCA Capoeira Level One Curriculum

The Student will be required to show that they have a functional understanding of "Safety First” which includes the meaning of the “Double Clap”.

“Safety First” refers to guidelines which help to keep us from hurting our opponents as well as ourselves.  The principle behind “Safety First” is Silence.  The student is to be silent when a Teacher or Instructor is speaking.  If the student is talking while instruction is being given, when it comes time to execute the movement the student will be lost possibly causing injury to their partner or even to themselves.

The “Double Clap” is sounded when the Teacher or Instructor wishes for the student to ““FREEZE”” exactly where they are.  This is usually because the student is in danger of causing harm or injury to himself, herself or to someone else.  WHEN YOU HEAR THE “DOUBLE CLAP”, FREEZE AND PAY ATTENTION.

Level One Movements:

Jinga, Negativa, Robo De Arraia, Meia-Lua de Frente

Meia-Lua de Costa, Rolê, Aú, Chappa Fechada

The student will also be introduced to the concept of Adat-Hormat.  The principles of Adat and Hormat can be made clear by the saying:  “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  Remember this affirmation:  “Show Respect, Consideration and Courtesy that the same may be shown unto me.  Failure to incorporate the principles and code of Adat-Hormat forfeits your rights and honors as a martial artist of any conceivable rank or title.

Once the student has shown a basic understanding of “Adat-Hormat”,              comprehension of the” Level One Movements” and a functional understanding of “Safety First”, they will be able to advance in Rank and in Honor.
